As a tax lawyer authorized by the U.S. Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to represent federal taxpayers, Tom is permitted to provide representation for U.S. taxpayers before:
(a) the IRS and the Treasury Department, no matter where located in the 50 states and abroad; and
(b) the U.S. Tax Court, the Court of Federal Claims (in DC), and many federal district courts, federal courts of appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
Tom’s law practice has been located in dynamic Redmond, Washington, since 2020, after moving to Washington in late 2019 from many years of mega-law firm and solo practice in the Chicago area.
Currently, Tom’s clients come to him mostly from Western Washington — ranging from Sequim and Marysville to the north, to Leavenworth to the east, to Federal Way and Edgewood to the south.
- Most of Tom’s current clients come to him from the dynamic Seattle-area communities on the so-called Eastside: Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Edmonds, Kenmore, Woodinville, and Newcastle.
During his 17 years with the U.S. Department of Justice in DC, and while in private law-firm practice, he appeared before federal courts located in the District of Columbia and at least 21 states — California, Washington, Arizona, Wyoming, Montana, Oklahoma, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Tennessee, Ohio, West Virginia, Georgia, New York, and Massachusetts. Few tax lawyers in the U.S. can make a claim like this – and perhaps none practicing in the PNW.
In short, Tom brings a demonstrated national stature to a federal tax practice of the highest order that now, after decades of practice, focuses on disputes with the IRS that arise in Western Washington – and at hourly rates far lower than what other tax attorneys of that caliber charge.
- Tom can easily provide private and comfortable meeting space in the following locations: Mountlake Terrace, Seattle (many locations), Bothell, Kirkland, Bellevue, Renton, Takoma, Tukwila, and Olympia. Since 2020, there has been no need to go into Seattle, or to San Francisco, Los Angeles, or Chicago, to secure top-flight federal-tax representation.
